The poetic and thematic impact of Lorca's poems on Shamlou's poetry

Federico Garcia Lorca (1898-1936) is perhaps the most important Spanish poet, dramatist, musician of the twentieth century. He was born in Granada in 1899 and he was assassinated in 1936 after Spanish civil war. He was an outstanding lyric poet of European literature. "Perhaps his greatest achievement was his ability to avoid the trapping of a superficial folksy style by skillfully combining traditional popular motifs with a modern sensibility"(Soto, Francisco).

His evocative lyrical ambiguity through the use of different symbols underlines an obscurity that makes the reader thinks and comes up with different interpretation as a struggle to explore the enigmas of his poems.

Lorca in his poetry combined traditional or typical customs of Spanish culture with intertwining the surrealistic poetical and thematic tactics to transfer the social and cultural attitudes against the injustice about woman, black people, and minority.

His poetry have been translated into different languages and have been the object of study by critics all over the world.

"Few poets write of desire with such a passionate delicacy as Federico Garcia Lorca. Lyric, erotic and savage, his poems celebrate the anguish of absence, the bittersweet longing for what cannot be possessed" (Alison Croggon.)

Summertime Tutoring

aMost people quite sensibly associate tutoring with the school year. As a tutor, I usually defend the right of children and teenagers to have summers filled with camp, first jobs, and long lazy days. However, there are certain situations where it makes sense to continue with or start a tutoring program in the summer. Good candidates for this kind of study include students who have fallen badly behind and need to catch up, students who are preparing for an important exam that will take place early in the fall, and the occasional student who has a strong, internal desire to go beyond the curriculum offered by his or her school. Students who fall into one of these three categories can benefit from the additional instruction even more than they would benefit from more traditional summer activities.

One large group of students who should be actively studying during the summer are those who failed a Regents Exam in June and plan to re-take the test in August. One option is summer school. Unfortunately, the quality of summer school is highly variable- sometimes the teacher is excellent, the class is small, and the experience is tranformative. Other times, the teacher is lackluster, the students are surly, and no learning takes place. It can be difficult to predict the quality of any given class before it starts (although you may be able to make an educated guess about the quality of the class if you are able to find out who the teacher will be beforehand).

Another option for summertime Regents preparation is private tutoring. At New York Academics, we offer tutoring for the integrated algebra, geometry, algebra II/trigonometry, English, physics, living environment (biology), chemistry, Earth science, American history, and Spanish Regents exams. Private tutoring is an especially good way to approach a difficult subject because the instruction is geared precisely toward one student. Of course, the cost can be prohibitive for some families. One alternative that is worth looking into is small group instruction. For example, New York Academics can accommodate groups ranging from two to six students, and a greatly reduced cost for each family.

In New York City, the SHSAT (Specialized High School Admissions Test) is given about two months after school starts in the fall. Since this test is extremely high stakes, it is common for students to begin studying for it during the summer before 8th grade. One-one-one tutoring, group lessons, and independent studying are all viable options for preparing for the SHSAT. (New York Academics offers resources for all three types of study.) The choice of how to prepare depends on the student's level of achievement and commitment, as well as his or her favored learning style and the family's financial situation. The summer is a particularly good time to study for the SHSAT because many of the students who want to go to a specialized high school are heavily involved in extracurricular activities and determined to get top grades. Adding serious study for the SHSAT to that mix can simply be too stressful, even for accomplished, able students who are strong candidates for a specialized high school.

Another high stakes test that many students study for over the summer is the ISEE, or independent school admissions test. The reasons for studying for the ISEE during the summer are essentially the same as the reasons for studying for the SHSAT during the summer. In fact, because the two tests have quite a few similarities and are often taken by the same students, studying for the two tests can actually be combined.

There are relatively few students who are so internally motivated that they want to study over the summer for no reason beyond curiosity and love of learning, but they certainly do exist. Academic camps, community college classes, independent study, and one-on-one tutoring all may be good options for these students. When we work with this type of student, we design a program to cater to the student's particular interests while making sure that we are not simply teaching them what they will learn next year in school. Instead, we delve into topics that are not normally part of high school curriculums so that the work is truly broadening, rather than simply accelerated.

Four Things You Can Do to Help Your Child

There may be no greater frustration for well-educated parents than watching their children struggle in school. Most parents feel powerless, so they take their children to specialists who are quick to label them with ADHD and medicate them. There are three things you need to know to help. First, ADD and ADHD represent a cluster of performance problems. ADD and ADHD are problematic and misleading terms. Aside from making children feel bad about his or herself, the terms are inaccurate. These children rarely have an attention deficit, rather they have attention inconsistency. They are easily bored by some things, and almost mesmerized by others. Second, think compensation and accommodation, not just medication. Medication can be valuable for dealing with distractibility, impulsivity, and hyperactivity (excessive energy), but it doesn't necessarily address underlying performance issues. It does, however, address one of the most important aspects of attentional dysfunction, namely mental energy control. Unfortunately, medication fails to improve how children process information and perform assignments. Third, don't think of "ADD" as a disease as much as a different way of perceiving the world. You know the costs, but there are also benefits. Among the most commonly identified people with ADD are: Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Leonardo da Vinci. Also suspected of having ADD are: Alexander Graham Bell, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Ansel Adams, Andrew Carnegie, Malcolm Forbes, Henry Ford, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Mark Twain, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. It is important to note that all of these people exhibited inattentiveness, impulsiveness, or hyperactivity, yet none of these people believed that they were defective. Clearly, seeing and engaging the world differently can be an advantage; but only if you aren't crushed by the weight of disapproval and disappointment.

Improving One's Practical Skills Combining Work with Studies

Lack of practical skills Practice is said to be the best of instructors. Educators admit this universal truth, but are unable to provide students with opportunities for developing their practical skills. Most educational programs are focused on theoretical part. Students have to acquire a lot of theoretical knowledge, though the gap between theory and practice may be rather broad. Even trying to imitate the atmosphere of real working environment, teachers are unable to prepare learners for starting their professional career. Receiving the first working experience appears to be rather stressful for young specialists. They may have problems with finding a starting point for their professional career. It is advisable to start working before receiving a college degree. It will be helpful for improving one's living standards and developing one's practical skills. Even if one's job is not related to one's professional sphere, it will improve the student's communicative skills. The main precautions for students combining work with studies; • make sure to devote enough time to your studies; • implement your theoretical knowledge in practice; • adopt experience of qualified specialists.

Home Schooling Advantages Vs. Disadvantages

Home schooling is an option that is becoming more attractive to parents as time goes on. Schools have become increasingly unstable over the past couple of decades. Children roam the hallways unchecked, textbooks are outdated, violence is prevalent, children are bullied mercilessly, and the quality of education on the whole has greatly diminished.

What options do parents have to combat this downward spiral? Initially, private school was thought to be the answer. As enrollment in private schools soared many parents failed to see a difference between public and private schools. The problems were still the same.

The option of home schooling has been around for a long time; however, until recently it had not been so popular. The idea of home schooling seems like a cure-all to many parents due to the advantages this type of education provides over traditional schools. Children who are home schooled can avoid many of the problems schools have become known for. For one, the environment is less threatening. Children can learn without fearing other students, aggressive or nasty teachers, and be under the constant supervision of parents. In addition, home schooling allows parents to dictate the academic course of their children. Home schooling also allows students to proceed at their own speed. If a child is weak at multiplication and division, a parent can focus lessons on those skills in favor of another skill that the child might grasp rather easily.

Home schooling is also advantageous because it keeps children away from other students that may be corruptive forces. There are many students in school who do not value learning. This is not any fault of the schools; however, it is still a painful reality. These students can lead to the destruction of a stable learning environment. Home schooling keeps children focused on learning and not on avoiding social pressures.

It may sound like the perfect option, but there are many disadvantages of home schooling. First of all, home schooled children are usually less socialized. While schools can sometimes be the breeding ground for poor social behaviors, school is also a place where students learn to interact with others and build social skills. It seems a bit like a catch 22.

In addition, another drawback to home schooling could be implementation of an educational plan. Many parents are not qualified as teachers and may not understand what is necessary to ensure a child has access to the proper curriculum.

Finally, another disadvantage to home schooling is the necessity for parents to take full responsibility for their child's education. If you choose to home school your child there is no one for you to blame if your child does poorly. The responsibility falls completely on the parent.

There are many advantages and disadvantages to home schooling. Before you begin a home schooling plan make sure you have evaluated your ability to properly instruct your child and provide a quality learning experience. If you do not think you can handle it, you might as well send your child to school but become more involved with his or her education.
